Founded on the Rock Matthew 7:25
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. — Matthew 7:24-25
The wise person is the who not only reads and understands what Jesus said, but also performs what He said is founded on the rock. In this verbal/written illustration the house is a metaphor for a person’s body and mind. People who study on Jesus’ words and then put them to practical application in their lives becomes wiser because they are founded on the rock. In doing so that person will be able to stand when the wind, rain, and floods when they come. These represent the troubles of life. For some, the wind, rain, and floods are depression, oppression, selfishness, greed, unforgiveness, and the list goes on and on. It is obvious Jesus was telling us then that it doesn’t matter, whether you are follower or not; we all will be faced with these troubles and trials in life. In the end Jesus also gave us the answer as to how we should approach these difficult times. First we must build our minds and bodies on the foundation of scriptural teachings of Jesus Christ and then apply those teachings to our lives daily.
Jesus summed up what each of us needs to do and that is to love our neighbor (all people) as we love ourselves. That doesn’t mean we cannot respectfully disagree with a person and that doesn’t mean we cannot tell a person the truth of the gospel, when truth is what is needed. It simply means loving another person in spite of their imperfections is the ultimate act of love, in other words sacrifice. More often than not love is about giving another person something they do not deserve, like forgiveness, but doing it anyway which allows us to overcome our own selfish and unforgiving failings. Love is the wisdom that is founded on the Rock.
